Well, hi there!

Salut, blog readers!

Thanks for taking some time out of your busy day to check out my little corner of the blogging world.

I started this page so you could follow me on my trip to France this spring. I know a lot of people who aren't on Facebook, who still want to keep tabs on me while I'm away. So here we are. I'll be leaving my cozy apartment in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on January 29, 2011 to spend 4 1/2 months living with a couple of total strangers in Dijon, France. I'll get into my incredibly mixed feelings as my departure date gets closer.

Generally, I'm a pretty cautious person, so there's no way I would ever do something like this on my own. I like my apartment, my school, and my life here. I would never just pick up and leave without a darn good reason, so here it is: I have to. I'm in the French Pre-Ed program at the University of Lethbridge, and it's a requirement for my degree that I spend an immersion semester in a school that uses French as its primary language of instruction. I could have gone to New Brunswick or Quebec, but I decided that this is a huge opportunity. I may never get another chance to go to Europe. So I looked around and decided that Dijon is small enough (80,000 people) that I wouldn't panic too badly, and I got started on the paperwork. And here we are.

Thanks again for checking out my blog. Hopefully I'll get a lot of chances to post, and it'll keep me from feeling too disconnected from my family and friends back home. So read on, comment, and enjoy My French Connection!

À bientôt,
Mandy
